Finding Calm in the Chaos

Finding Calm in the Chaos

I’ve sat across from so many people struggling with anxiety, and I’ve often wondered if part of it comes from not having the security of a stable family. Every story reminds me just how alone someone can feel—even when they’re surrounded by people who care.

Have you ever woken up with that nagging feeling, like something’s just… off? As if something bad is about to happen, even though there’s no clear reason why? It’s exhausting. And in those moments, no amount of positive thinking or pep talk seems to help. We’ve all been there at some point, haven’t we?

If there’s one thing I’ve learned—from both my clients and my own journey—it’s the importance of giving ourselves permission to feel, to remember, to talk. That, in itself, is a form of healing.

I’ll never forget one moment with a client—a capable, confident woman in her thirties. She sat across from me, describing her week: always on the go, unable to relax even on her days off. She was drained. Exhausted. And yet, she couldn’t stop.

Gone are the days when we thought it was “strong” to swallow our feelings—our doubts, our insecurities, our low self-worth—and just keep going, functioning on autopilot. It’s time we address these issues at the root, and begin healing in a real, intentional way—for our own sake.

new study from the Universities of Bath and Southampton, published in the British Journal of Health Psychology, found that just 10 minutes of daily mindfulness practice can significantly improve wellbeing, reduce depression and anxiety, and motivate people to adopt healthier lifestyles, including better exercise, eating, and sleeping habits. The good news? You don’t have to do it alone. Reach out. It is possible to feel better—not perfect, but better. And that’s a powerful place to start.
